Hypodematium
Description of the genus
Rhizome creeping, densely set with lanceolate-acuminate, entire scales. Stipe with a dense tuft of scales at the base. Fronds tufted, herbaceous. Lamina ovate-triangular to pentagonal in outline, 3- to 4-pinnatifid, basal pinnae basiscopically developed, veins free, hairy on both surfaces. Sori circular, indusium kidney-shaped, hairy.
Derivation of name: hypo:below, dema: bundle; refers to the densely clustered tuft of scales at the base of the stipe.
Worldwide: Southern, western and east africa and eastern asia.
